About the Game

Shadowdrift is an atmospheric 2D platformer that immerses you in a dangerous world where light is your worst enemy. You play as a creature of shadow, trying to escape a world full of deadly traps.

Your main goal is to get through 20 increasingly difficult levels, each a unique puzzle of platforms, light, and darkness. Your life, or "Essence," melts away under any light, and only in the safety of the shadows can you restore your strength.

The game's atmosphere is filled with tension: minimalist pixel art, pulsating light sources, and a dark sound design create a feeling of a constant race for survival. This is a game of speed, precision, and cleverness, where every jump must be calculated.

Game Slogan: Embrace the shadow. Fear the light.

How to Play

Objective: Your task on each level is to reach the purple, swirling vortex. This is the portal that will take you to the next stage of your escape.

Controls:

  • Movement: Use the A and D keys or the Left/Right arrows to move.
  • Jump: Press W, the Up arrow, or the Spacebar to jump.

Core Mechanics:

  • Essence: Your health bar in the top-left corner. It depletes quickly when you are in the light and slowly regenerates when you are in the shadows. If your essence runs out, you lose.
  • Dangerous Light: Avoid the glowing areas from stationary and moving sources, as well as direct beams of light. They damage your essence.
  • Light Bounce: Touching the bright core of a light source (the small dot in the center) won't kill you; instead, it will launch you high into the air. Use this mechanic to reach high platforms that are inaccessible with a normal jump.
  • Rays and Doors: Some paths are blocked by doors. To open them, a beam of light must hit them. As a creature of shadow, you can block these rays with your body. Use this strategically: sometimes you need to let a ray pass to open a door, and other times you need to block it to create a safe passage.
